Mood For Food: Dazzling Cafe

Tucked right in the quiet corner of Orchard Road is a whimsical and modern cafe that’s embellished with baby pink, black, and golden accents of furniture and decor, giving off a scintillating ambience. According to their home website, Dazzling Café is one of “Asia’s fastest-expanding trendy cafe chains,” with branches in Taiwan, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Its cafe’s success is “acclaimed to an integral mix of fashion, cuisine, and bespoken drinks.”

When Kathryn and Christen walked into Dazzling Café, we felt as if we had been transported to wonderland with the sparkling, low-hanging chandeliers and pink velvet seats with bunny ears. The cafe had a large glass wall that allowed natural light to flush in and light up the entire restaurant with an incandescent glow. Amazed at the aesthetic of the place, we were a little worried that the food would not meet the same level of the atmosphere. However, there was nothing to worry about.

Dazzling Café uses ingredients “sourced diligently, [and] served with pride”, stated from their website. Their gourmet tea selection only uses Mariage Fréres and Hediard Tea Leaves that are imported from Paris. Their famous honey toast bread is baked fresh every single day, and they only use premium Haagen Daz ice cream and customized gelato to top off their desserts. While we were there, we both agreed that their quality of food was wonderful and agreeable with the prices on their menu.

Christen’s fresh Lychee Lavender Iced Tea

Because we were there on a weekday, we each ordered a lunch set that was $19.90 and included a soup or drink, and main course. Christen ordered the Lychee Lavender Iced Tea, which was an English Breakfast tea base, with Lychee Syrup, Lavender essence, and garnished with lychee, strawberries, dried lavender, and a mint leaf. The tea was refreshing yet invigorating with the kick of lavender. It tasted exquisite and was also a very “instagrammable” drink, which was a plus. For her main, Christen ordered the Penne with Tomato Cream Sauce. It was a vegetarian pasta with zucchini, olives, peas, basil, parmesan cheese, and covered in an aromatic tomato sauce. This pasta had a spicy kick to it, but the creamy tomato helped balanced it out. The noodles were cooked to al dente, each bite was filled flavorful with spices, and the veggies gave a nice crunch. Affordable yet delicious, the drink and pasta were worth the money.

Also following along with their lunch set, Kathryn decided to order Dazzling Cafe’s Truffle Mushroom soup, along with a Bacon and Mushroom Aglio Olio. The Mushroom soup came within five minutes of ordering our food, being served piping hot. The soup’s soft truffle fragrance made our stomachs grumble. The soup’s texture was soft and creamy, everything that you would want with an appetizer. Before Kathryn knew it, the bowl was soon empty. However, despite the soup’s large portion, Kathryn did not feel too full, as the soup was light enough to make room for the entrees. The Bacon and Mushroom Aglio Olio was served quickly after the soup was finished.

Kathryn’s piping hot Mushroom Aglio Olio

The noodles were all twirled together to make one swooping circle, completed with an egg on top and bacon and mushrooms surrounding the masterpiece. While the noodles appeared quite dry, they became the perfect texture as Kathryn broke the egg. The noodles were a perfect marriage of simple yet unique with its classic Aglio Olio style combined with hints of spice and mushroom flakes. Both the soup and pasta went hand in hand with one another, creating a fantastic meal.

Christen and Kathryn also decided to order some items off the lunch menu. We decided to order their famous Mentaiko Fries. These fries combined traditional Japanese snacking with a crowd favorite: french fries. Steaming hot fries were quickly served as we began to dig into our entrees. These fries were drizzled with Dazzling Cafe’s famous Mentaiko Sauce, which was a combination or mayonnaise and Mentaiko fish eggs. With this combination sound quite out of the ordinary, the crunch of the fries and smoothness of the sauce created a symphony in our mouths.

As we began to exit the restaurant, we walked through Dazzling Cafe’s boutique, which was situated at the store’s entrance. We were surrounded by sparkling rings, gleaming necklaces, and shiny bracelets, all of which looked nothing short of fabulous. The boutique also displayed an array of thick books, which were not only for decoration, but were being sold as well. Despite all of the items’ beauty, the items were all very expensive and would not suit a student’s budget.

If you are looking for a fabulous dining location situated in the heart of town, Dazzling Cafe is the place for you!
