Eagle varsity teams are already halfway through the third season. With Exchange weekend behind them, the teams are looking forward to making final tweaks on strategy, technique, and team chemistry.
In Bangkok, the boys’ badminton team smashed the competition. Eagle boys dominated round robin and won against every school 7-0, except against Jakarta, to whom they won 6-1.

Senior and Boys’ Badminton Captain Vibhav Jagwani said, “Before Exchange, we were about here [raises hand]. After Exchange, we’re somewhere over here [raises hand higher]. Before IASAS, we have to get to here [raises hand even higher], and in order to do that, we have to work hard.”
The girls’ badminton team had a similarly successful result: they won 4 out of 5 games. The girls lost to Jakarta.
Unfortunately, the success of the badminton team wasn’t shared across all sports.
Here in Singapore, the Eagles had a “disappointing” result, according to Boys’ Captain Brian Ford.
The boys won two games against Jakarta and Taipei, but lost three other games against Manila, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur. The girls also experienced a 2-3 result: they won against Manila and Jakarta but lost to Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, and Bangkok.
“Last year we didn’t do as well as we thought we would at Exchange, but we ended up winning gold,” Brian said. “We’re hoping we can experience a similar result. Softball is a very mental game, so we just have to relax in order to be successful.”

Varsity track and field athletes participated in a friendly Exchange in Jakarta. Because not all schools attended – Taipei and Manila were both absent from the tournament – and because not all of the IASAS roster athletes were present, the tournament wasn’t overly-competitive.
Vanessa Smiley, junior and track long-distance runner, said Exchange was “a very friendly atmosphere. Even though people are nervous, the adrenaline isn’t as high as it is for IASAS.”
But that didn’t stop SAS from working hard. The boys’ 4×100 team broke an SAS record over the weekend.
While varsity golfers don’t participate in Exchange, all third season sports – badminton, softball, track and field, and golf – are looking two weeks ahead to IASAS.
